A passionate story crafter; a natural connector; a bridge between cultures.
I’m Shelley Tepperman.
My career has involved writing, editing, commercial and literary translation (recognized by three Governor General’s Award nominations), filmmaking, professional theatre, programming and curating international and intercultural arts events, Radio Drama at the CBC, teaching (at CBC, National Theatre School and Concordia University), and all types of research.
I’ve worked with celebrities, artists, doctors, scientists and academics, and have interviewed people from all walks of life.
I’m a lifelong learner who can talk to anyone about anything.
Journeys into other cultural landscapes are an important part of my life. This has led me to travel through Europe, Asia and Latin America, and to learn a number of languages including French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Hebrew (and counting), as well as two Deaf sign languages (ASL & LSQ). This appetite for travel and a keen curiosity about the world and other cultures consistently fuels my work.
Since 2000 I have also built a strong and varied body of work in factual entertainment: Writing, story editing and directing in documentary and lifestyle television and one-off docs. This includes three seasons on the internationally syndicated Dogs with Jobs, and Discovery’s comedy-meets-medicine series Doctor*ology as well as shows about the arts, social issues, unknown parts of history and a range of subjects in between.
